Out There Wiki

There are five possible objectives (or missions) available while playing Out There. Each objective is color-coded, and corresponds to a star that is highlighted on the player map using the appropriate color.

The various objectives and associated storylines each reveal different information about how and why the player was transported to this region of space. Each objective corresponds to a different possible way to resolve the storyline.

Once any objective is completed, the current game immediately ends, meaning only one objective can be finished per game. Completing an objective unlocks a new departure ship that can be used when starting future games; three of the objectives also unlock a departure ship when the player is first shown the objective.

All objectives can be replayed in subsequent games.

Details (including major spoilers) on each of the five objectives are provided on the following pages:

Notes[]

  • All the color-coded stars can be visited without triggering the game ending and/or completing the objective. However, caution is advised in the Green Objective star system: just going into orbit around (clicking on) the station found there will immediately end the game. The other star systems can be safely explored -- cutscenes revealing more information may be triggered, but there is no risk outside the Green Objective star of accidentally ending the game.
  • The original release of the game only contained three objectives (red, green, and blue)
  • The yellow objective was added in Out There: Omega Edition
  • The orange objective was added in Out There: Alliance
